Hypolipidemic drug and Contraceptive drug
Question At this time , I take two kinds of medicine:
1. Lipid - lowering drug
2. Birth control pills
I want to know the effect of using two drugs together and adverse effect of two drugs.
Answer Dyslipidemia is a primary, major risk factor for CAD and may even be a prerequisite for CAD, occurring before other major risk factors come into play. Epidemiologic data also suggest that hypercholesterolemia and perhaps coronary atherosclerosis itself are risk factors for ischemic stroke. Increasing evidence also points to insulin resistance—which results in increased levels of plasma triglycerides and low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C) and a decreased concentration of high density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL-C)—as an important risk factor for peripheral vascular disease , stroke, and CAD .
There are several classes of hypolipidemic drugs. They may differ in both their impact on the cholesterol profile and adverse effects. For example, some may lower the "bad cholesterol" low density lipoprotein (LDL) more so than others, while others may preferentially increase high density lipoprotein (HDL), "the good cholesterol". Clinically, the choice of an agent will depend on the patient's cholesterol profile, cardiovascular risk, and the liver and kidney functions of the patient, evaluated against the balancing of risks and benefits of the medications.
The most common side effect of hypolipidemic drugs: Muscleaches or weakness (myalgia), rash, high blood sugar, high level of SGOT,SGPT(= enzyme of liver function)
Contraceptives are associated with a slightly increased risk of venous and arterial blood clots, slight weight gain, headaches, little menstruation. But severe side effect are rare. Don't worry about the effect of the drug. If you have no abnormal symptoms, you can take these medicine narmally. Most lipid-lowering drug, and oral contraceptives can certainly take together without any drug interaction or may be a little. To get the exact information, need to specify the name of oral contraceptives and a drug used to reduce blood fat can be more clear
