Answer: Erythromycin is
one drug of macrolide group (such as azithromycin, clarithromycin,
roxithromycin, midecamycin, spiramycin, etc.).The data can be searched: erythromycin
is not contraindicated for patients with a history of muscle spasms (especially
skeletal muscle). However, there are reports of erythromycin increasing the contraction
of smooth muscle, particularly in the gastrointestinal system. By acting
through motilin receptor at the upper gastrointestinal tract that causes abdominal
pain.
Thus, avoiding the use of macrolide group may be done
in patients with a history of abdominal muscle contraction.
